Research/Publications

Dr. Desai is carrying out palaeontological and stratigraphical research for understanding of the Spatio-temporal evolution of sedimentary basins with special reference to Sequence stratigraphy, its paleo-environment and palaeoceanography. Dr. Desai is actively working on Ichnology, Mesozoic Belemnites combined with Sequence stratigraphy for understanding evolution of Mesozoic basins of India subcontinent.

Recently, he is working on Evolution of Mesozoic basins (Kachchh, Jaisalmer and Narmada-‘Bagh Beds’) with one of the objective as delineation for palaeoceanographic events like anoxic-oxic events, short/long term palaeoecological changes etc., with the help of ichnology. These identified palaeoceanographic events are being dated based on ammonites, belemnites and nanoplanktons. Currently, he is also working on applications of Ichnology to production geology specifically for bioturbated units in reservoir, their modeling for sedimentary facies and detailed petrophysical studies of reservoir units and non-destructive analysis of cores for retrieving qualitative and quantitative information.

Specialization:
Ichnology, Sequence Stratigraphy & Belemnite taxonomy.

Research Interest:
Applications of Ichnology and Sequence stratigraphy for reservoir studies.
