Dr. Srivastava is carrying out his research work on Lipid Science and also in Environmental Science. The basic approach in his research work is oriented towards natural products and cyano lipids. He and his group members are known for their work in Bio-Fuels. Some of the research articles from Prof. Srivastava’s group published have been well cited by other researchers. Some research results, particularly in the area of Lipid Science are now being used by industry. He has also carried out certain reactions of long chain internal, terminal and a, ß-unsaturated acids and their derivatives like epoxy and dihydroxy with nitrosyl fluoride.

He has active collaborations with scientists from organizations like Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT, Hyderabad), Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT, Kanpur) University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT, Mumbai), Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI, Kanpur), NEERI Nagpur and Institute of Plasma Research(IPR-FCIPT) Gandhinagar. He is active Fellow/Life member of various professional bodies like Indian Chemical Society (ICS), National Safety Council of India (NSCI), Indian Association for Environmental Management (IAEM), The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Society of Advancement of Electrochemical Science and Technology (SAEST), Indian Society of Technical Educational (ISTE), Oil Technologist’s Association of India (OTAI), Plasma Science Society of India (PSSI), and Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI).

Recently he has started his research work on drilling fluid and certain environmental issues of oil, gas and energy sector. He has initiated experimental and theoretical work on Environmental issues of Petroleum industries particularly the energy recovery from waste collected from petroleum refinery. He has been working on Bio-fuels from some indigenous oilseeds apart from Jatropha. Both experimental and modeling studies are being conducted in this area. He has published a book on Engineering Chemistry. He had been Environmental Auditor recognized by Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB). Recently he has been nominated as External member of GPCB.
