Vacation Workshop at PDPU
PDPU organized summer workshops in 2009 and 2010 for children of surrounding village in which nearly 400 and 600 children participated in respective years. It received overwhelming response from the community. To continue the legacy, this year PDPU organized vacation workshops on various skills for the children between age group of 6 years to 15 years. Around 600 children of 4 nearby villages namely Koba, Kudasan, Sargasan, Por and Premdhara – A school for Slum children in Gandhinagar.
The objectives of the summer workshops are to:
Broaden their exposure & understanding, Accelerate their learning process, Build confidence, Develop creativity, To open new horizon for vocation
The duration of the workshop was from 16th May 2011 to 10th June 2011, 9.30 to 11.30 from Monday to Friday. In the 4 weeks of time, children developed their skills in art & craft, spoken English, basic computer literacy, Theatre, Terracotta art. In art & craft workshop children are working with new age media like wood and fabric and created mirror frame, collage panel, jewelry, tie & die on fabric etc. The kind of colorful and creative work children have done, it left viewer in awe. Students of computer workshop have fun with paint, when they get a ground to display their creativity in digital media. They also learned other basic software like MS office and Power Point, which are now essential in day to day life. Like everyone, participants of the spoken English workshop learned English and want to speak in English. They are having blast learning English in the fun way, where they play games, watch movies, enact role play but all in English and for English. The fear of foreign language is hardly seen here and children are ready to adopt the language, which is now consider as an international language and have become life skill. In terracotta workshop, Rajasthani artisans teach to sculpt different objects and also teach to use potter’s wheel. Children have fun working with clay and make decorative articles. Theatre is the workshop where students learn body dynamics, language, expressions through theatrical art. Apart from learning, the fun part of the workshop is to get chance to interact with children of other villages and make more friends.
