A Guest lecture on : THE SEVEN HABITS

Once Dr. Rob Gilbert quoted that: FIRST WE FORM HABITS, THEN THEY FORM US. Conquer your bad habits or they will conquer you. But how???. ..... A very simple logic : “A nail is driven out by another nail”; “Habit is overcome by habit”.

As a part of the Girls' Welfare and Development Activity Cell, a lecture, based on the very famous book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, was delivered by Mrs. Anju Kapur at PDPU on 6th May, 2011. It was held for girls of SOT, SPT, SSE and SNE. Amongst all the batches, the student-faculty coordination of SOT is definitely praiseworthy. This was highlighted in their 100% attendance as well as the participation of Director-in-charge, along with other faculty. The Interactive talk will be continued in the following academic year for girls of SLS and SPM.

Mrs Kapur explained a very principle-centered approach for solving personal and professional problems. The first habit is to Be Proactive And Not Reactive, don't think of the glass to be half-empty. We certainly don't have a control over what life throws at us but we always have a choice how we are to respond. The second habit is to Think With The End In Mind, whatever career we chose must bring a sense of real satisfaction. Dream and transform it to reality. The third habit is to Do First Things First, plan, prioritize and execute a week's tasks based on importance rather than urgency. Time management is the key to success. The next three habits address interdependence. The fourth being Think Win-Win. This habit concerns on fostering an attitude to seek agreements that are mutually beneficial. It is not based on compromise rather it is based on understanding. This is the fifth habit- Seek First To Understand Than To Be Understood. When both parties are trying to be understood, neither party is really listening. This habit thus saves us from indulging in the dialogue of the deaf and overcomes misunderstandings. So be an empathetic listener. The sixth of the habits is Synergize. This habit involves you putting your head together with the other party to yield a better solution to a problem. The last habit of the 7 Habits is - Sharpen the Saw. Regularly engage yourself in physical exercise, read good books, meditate and love. Practicing all the seven habits will bring about the results we are after.
