SPE – PDPU, Mega Event!

Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University’s (PDPU) Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter (SPE student chapter Faculty advisor Prof. Bhawani Singh Desai) had been recently awarded the GOLD STANDARD STATUS, consequently making it the privileged host of the prestigious SPE Sub Regional Meet. Thus a 3 day (from the 22nd October to the 24th October) extravagant event was hosted at the campus celebrating the brilliant success of the SPE Student Chapter PDPU.

The meet was inaugurated by Honorable Shri Anil Johri, ED-Ahmedabad Asset, ONGC. On the next two days, 23rd and 24th October, SPE Sub Regional paper presentation were held in which B. Tech, M. Tech and PhD students of various colleges namely PDPU, Indian School of Mines (ISM), University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering (RGCOE) and Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) vehemently participated. On the 23 & 24 October, technical papers were presented on various topics- drilling & completion, reservoir, unconventional resources, health safety & environment, exploration and geo physics.

The competition was judged by executives from energy sector BIGIES like Shell, British Gas(BG), Halliburton –Asia(HLS), Gujarat Green Revolution Company Ltd, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation(GSPC), Weatherford, Schlumberger, ONGC etc. The competition was of such remarkable exposure that it provided the students with an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience. Interestingly, the gala dinner proved an apt platform for industrial-academia interface. . Mr. Dileep Diwakaran, Reservoir Engineer, Schlumberger says-“I have actually attended PDPU student chapter event and was very impressed by the quality of work, by the quality of the students. PDPU has got a lot of potential and can positively contribute to the oil and gas industry.”

The 1st and 2nd prize winners {(Parag Bandyopadhay PDPU and Kutbuddin H Bhatia and Levin Chacko (MIT) respectively} of the undergraduate division and the 1st prize winner(N. C. Chithra Chakra) of the graduate division will be invited to present the same paper at the 2011 MIDDLE EAST conference on 12 March 2011. The 1st winner of each division of the latter competition will be invited to present the same paper at International Competition at Denver, Colorado, USA in Oct/Nov 2011.
