Plantation of Kesar Mango grafts at
Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University

PDPU faculties and students planted 300 Kesar Mango grafts on 2nd August on Gandhinagar day. Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University is located in Raisan village, which was earlier known for its mango orchard. While developing a campus, PDPU tried to retain those old mango trees and now those trees are one of the special features of PDPU. It is often seen at PDPU that gatherings, student meetings, chat and chai, a quick learning class all happen under the mango trees to give it a green touch. This not only make us environment friendly but even teaches us the importance of trees around us.

PDPU was well aware that the village, which used to have around 1000 mango trees, now has very few left. The development process has laid severe impact on rich natural heritage. Since, campus development is stabilized; PDPU wanted to return the village heritage. The staff and the students of PDPU planted 300 Kesar mango grafts. The grafts were brought from Junagadh Agriculture College.

PDPU also introduced a very unique and interesting concept of grafting and owning an individual tree by each member who planted a tree. So we have one owner for a tree who would nurture the tree and look after and protect the mango tree.
