School of Petroleum Management (affiliated to Pandit DeenDayal Petroleum University) is providing management graduates specifically for Oil & Gas sector which contains group of fresh and experienced people with diverse backgrounds. Also, its state-of-art infrastructure equipped with world class facilities and expert team of faculties are dedicated to provide Excellency in education. Further, regular interactions between industry experts and students adds value and thereby bridges the gap between Industry and Institution.

I chose to join SPM because it was the only Institute to offer a course which is purely focused on Petroleum Management. After doing well in my Engineering and job I felt that this Institute is the best option those with prior experience given its wide Industry network in the Petroleum domain and I am not wrong. |

I chose this area of study because I already had
an interest in Petroleum, the most happening and the
most influential sector in the world economies and have
developed a passion for the domain. Now after Post graduating
from the Institute I enjoy the respect as an alumni
of the Institute and the attention I receive as a Crude
Oil trader. One of the most important aspects of student
life is where you live, I was lucky enough to get a
well furnished room with all desirable facilities on
the very first day I joined. There I made some life
long friends. I enjoyed every minute of my stay there.
However, the new hostel in the campus premises is excellent
of having more facilities and lavish accommodation with
Gym and sports club (much to everyones delight!).The
campus is ideally situated between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar,
this location is one of the few Places that has such
diverse students (from 5 world class Institutes and
universities in and around) that it offers something
to do for everyone. Just 20 min away from the Air-port,
major shopping malls and multiplexes, making travel
very comfortable and weekends very happening. Gujarat
being a dry State, it ensured that we always meet a
very decent crowd at whichever places we go. One positive
experience for me personally was the diversity at IPMG
(It had students from 21 states of India). I am able
to learn a lot from other people and hear different
points of views from various Students and staff. Another
positive experience is that we see the faculty on campus
a lot and they interact with students during events
held on campus. I feel that is important because that
gives students the chance to see teachers, the director
is very approachable and the management is always open
to student requests and they ensured that students are
always involved in the key decision processes of the
Institute. The Institute had managed well to rope in
the top class professors from IIMs as visiting faculty
and the Industry heads of the NOCs , SOCs and MNCs as
guest Faculty. I knew the day I joined that my future
is secure, Institute has a very good Industry network
and placement cell always ensured that we are placed
in the best organizations; both my summer and final
Placements are done in Fortune 500 companies. I am very
proud to be an SPMGian.

My drive to succeed has taken me from the capital
city New Delhi to the corporate office of a Fortune

the way. |

I grew up in New Delhi, India. After completing a bachelor in computer applications at the age of 21, I spent four years in an IT company.
The experience at a middle level job boosted my confidence and commercial acumen. But certain aspects of my role, such as the financial requirements, were a challenge for me. So I had a choice: I could continue learning on the job or I could get a formal management education. I chose the latter and after 4 years in IT, moved to IPMG, Gandhinagar to begin my MBA. Joining IPMG was one of the best decisions of my life. The IPMG experience broadened my managerial skills, provided me with advanced tools/frameworks in strategic marketing, business strategy and finance, empowering me to become an integrative thinker and strategic problem solver, which are critical for business decision making.
Thanks to placement cells efforts, I secured my first
post-MBA job even before I graduated. During the Summer
Internship project-where students undertake live management
projects supplied by organization- I worked on a project
for understanding the fiscal regime for bidding for
Oil and Gas Blocks. I made an impression on GM-HR, who
offered me a job in the Planning and Development Cell.
I am very grateful to him. His confidence in my skills
and competencies opened up the door for me in the Oil
sector.
And the doors keep opening. Now working for a fortune 500 company Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) as a Direct Sales officer. I believe working for a Fortune 500 company like HPCL is very exciting and challenging as you are among peers who are the best and brightest in the industry. And now that I have my MBA I am ready to take on any new challenges in my professional career.

Views about SPM
The best thing about studying MBA (focused on
O&G Sector) from SPM was the uniqueness of
the course. The course that was offered endowed
the students with a perfect blend of scientific
and management skills to fit the oil and gas industry
very well. |

Although 2006-08 was the first batch of IPMG, there was never a compromise on the quality of education, faculty and infrastructure. The well designed course curriculum, renowned and experienced faculty and fine infrastructure always made me feel at par with students from best of the B schools spread across India. The co curricular activities gave a chance to all for showcasing their talent and development of overall personality. Above all, the excellent placements reflected the collective efforts of faculty and students. Besides academic learning, I got the golden opportunity to be as close to nature as never before. Flower laden fields, varied fauna along with beautiful peacocks formed a spectacular sight every day filling my day with loads of enthusiasm and positivity.
I owe a lot to SPM for its valuable learning and memorable experiences that would never fade from my mind throughout my life.

The foundation of SPM has been laid by Sh. Arabinda Tripathy, who is a graduate from London School of Economics and also has a vast experience of teaching at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He left no stone unturned in making sure that the pioneer batch, which I am also a part of, is placed in their desired profiles and in the reputed organizations. |

The two years spent at SPM have been instrumental
in shaping my career. IPMG has taught me how to be a
team man, how to meet deadlines and commitments, which
according to me are a pre-requisite for any management
professional. However the journey has not been an easy
one. The case studies, assignments, projects and examinations
always used to keep all of us on our toes. But as the
famous saying goes No pains, no gains.
Today SPM has carved a niche for itself in the petroleum sector by being amongst the very few institutes of the country which offer a management course focused on the entire value chain in the oil and gas sector. I think soon IPMG is going to be in the league premier B-Schools of the country through the dedicated and sincere efforts of the faculty members, who are competent in their respective teaching areas. I wish the institute good luck in its future endeavors.
