Background
School of Petroleum Technology emphasizes on integrated development in teaching, research and overall grooming of students.

As a part of B. Tech. Programme students are required to undergo:
1) Rural Internship: on completion of 1st Year B.Tech
2) Oil and Gas Industry Orientation: on completion of 2nd Year B.Tech
3) Industrial Training: on completion of 3rd Year B.Tech
4) Industrial Job Placement: On completion of 4th Year B.Tech

It is in this reference, 2nd year B. Tech. students are scheduled to visit various industries across the country with view to get familiar with Industry Operations in Oil and Gas Industry including exploration, drilling, production, transportation, refining, distribution, electricity generation, and research activities.

Objectives
• To expose students to various operations of oil and gas industry for enhancing their understanding about application of science and engineering principles studied in first two years of B. Tech programme.
• To develop students’ understating about oil and gas industry operations to facilitate their academic and research learning for the 3rd and 4th year B. Tech programme.
• To create border understanding of oil and gas value chain.
• To expose students to upstream, midstream and downstream operations of oil and gas sector.

Expected Learning Outcomes
Upstream:
1 Exploration
• Understand and explain fundamental principles and mechanisms of
Exploration.
• Aerial and geophysical surveys
• Geological studies
• Employ appropriate measurement methods to assess volume and relative production of hydrocarbon reserves.
2 Drilling
• Understand and explain fundamental principles and mechanisms of drilling.
• Explain the techniques of evaluating different petroleum formations.
• Core testing and drilling of well.
• Understand and explain concepts of porosity, permeability, wettability, and capillary pressure. Understand how these parameters may affect the oil production.
• To identify some interaction between fluid and rock and the effect on the oil production.
3 Production
• Well and Reservoir Pressures
• Well testing
• Cased-Hole Logs
• Production Logs
• Well stimulation
• Surface Subsidence

Midstream:
1 Gas Processing
• Gas treatment process
• Gas dehydration
• Gas sweetening
2 Transportation of Gas & Oil
• Transportation service
• Pipeline
3 Refining Operations
• Alkylation
• Bottom of the Barrel Processing
